Last modified Feb 4, 2005: added a page of iris links.

Gardening is my main hobby and passion. I'm interested in many kinds of
plants, but specialize in iris, particularly species iris. I combine my
interest in plants with a more recent hobby of photography. I didn't get
seriously into photography until digital cameras liberated the world from
the inhibiting influences of film and film labs. I started with a Sony
DCS D700 in 1999 and graduated to a Canon D60 in 2002.
Back in the fall of 1998, I was looking for pictures of arilbred iris on
the web and found very few. That inspired me to buy the D700 and start
a web site. Since then, many people have worked to expand the web's photographic
coverage of iris and many other topics so that the web is a much richer
place than it was in 1998. I'm still expanding my collection of plant photos,
particularly iris species, and still add pictures to my web site now and
then.

I have set up links to some web pages that may be of interest to iris lovers.
In May of 2003 I took a vacation to the U.S. Virgin Islands. I stayed at the Inn at Blackbeard's Castle on St. Thomas. Blackbeard's Castle is the name of an old fortified stone watchtower that the pirate, Blackbeard, is reported to have made use of for several years. Here is a wide-angle, 360° view from the top of the tower. Click on the picture to see a larger scrollable image.
